A Walking Tour of Concord

Introduction

Matt, Mrs.LeDuc and I, Eric Lassonde, went

on a walking tour of Concord, NH. I took a digital

camera and took pictures of old Concord, NH.

buildings. We went on our tour and it was a cloudy Monday

afternoon.

Sacred Heart Church
 


52 Pleasant Street
Built in 1850
 The Sacred Heart Church is built like an Italian church or villa and
reminds people of  Italy.

Benjamin Grover
Built in 1854
This old Italian house has brackets on the door way.
Benjamin Grover was a merchant and spent $7500 dollars to build this house


33 Pleasant Street
Built in 1851, this is Lewis Downing JR's. house and his dad built the Concord Coach.
 

 The old Concord Monitor building.
3 North Main Street
It was built in 1929.
This was the old Concord Monitor building until 1990. The first major newspaper was printed here. Offices are on the top floors.
Notice the fan window.


French's Toy Shop
10 North State Street
Built in 1835
This building used to be an old private girl's school.


Phenix Hall
North Main Street
Built in 1895
Two famous Presidents
spoke there (Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt). In the upstairs auditorium at Phenix Hall


First Baptist Church
20 North State Street
Built in 1825
Many different religions met there
 The bell is from the Revere family in Boston.
 


Mary Baker Eddy Church
First Church of Christ Scientist
North State Street
Mary Baker Eddy donated $100,000 to build it.
Mary Baker Eddy started the Christian Science Church. It has a 165 foot steeple.
 


First Church of Christ Scientist
North State and School Streets
Built in 1903
 It is the tallest building in Concord. It is made of Concord granite.

Conclusion

I learned that a lot of famous people lived in these buildings like Benjamin Grover and Lewis Downing JR. A lot of famous people were responsible for the buildings like Mary Baker Eddy. There are a lot of different styles of building in

Concord. My tour was fun. Take one too.
