The Little Engine That Could

Written By: Watty Piper

Platt & Munk, 1930

An engine carrying toys for children broke down before it could make it over the mountain. The toys tried to wave down other trains, but no one would help them. Finally, a small blue train stopped and helped them over the mountain. The blue train was a hero because she tried even though she wasn't sure that she could make it. The train was important because if she hadn't helped, the children wouldn't have gotten their toys.
