DOWNLOADING SOFTWARE

Part of our action plan for this year is to increase the availability of software.

As with any item that has intellectual property associated with it, the district must adhere to all licensing protocols. Therefore some software may not be as available as other software. Software available is for you to install at in your class or at home (in some cases), not on computers in labs though (which must be installed by a technology staff person). Software is transported over two possible mediums -- either as a CD or as a downloadable off one of our Internet servers. Certain software has password protection built-in to insure that it ends up in the right hands.

Please contact Mike Galinat (mgali@csd.k12.nh.us) for PC's and Steve Rothenberg (sroth@csd.k12.nh.us) for MAC's to obtain password clearance. An email will be considered a formal request.

Before downloading any software..

MAC: Be sure to have decompression software STUFFIT EXPANDER (min of version 5.5) -- it is free and must be on your hard drive (be sure to throw away older version). We can send it to you as an attachment. Email us at techloan@concord.k12.nh.us to make a request. You can also try downloading from the Aladdin, the manufacturer of the free software. You can download anything once you have Stuffit Expander 5.5 or greater; older version will not work as well, or at all.

Be sure you have enough room on your computer, you can check on both WINDOWS and MAC in a similar manner. On a WINDOWS-- open MY COMPUTER. RIght click on the C Drive. On a MAC -- highlight your hard drive. Go to FILE MENU: GET INFO: GENERAL INFORMATION. In both cases -- notice how much free space is available. The rule of thumb is to have at least 10% of your hard drive open at all times.
