This opens a new file for you. Depending on the project - we may have a template to open (OPEN AN EXISTING PRESENTATION), or to start from scratch use BLANK PRESENTATION.

CUT
and PASTE: Basic commands for: bringing in a graph from Excel, text from Word, or a picture off the Internet (use the right click for copying).
VIEW MENU
SLIDE SLIDE SHOW:
There are five key views in Powerpoint that can either be accessed from the VIEW MENU or from the 5 buttons on the bottom of the active screen, or from the VIEW MENU. They are Slide (regular working layout), Slide Outline (what it will finally look like), Slide Sorter (shows all the slides), Notes Page (notes that you see, put that other do not for a speech), and Slide Show (to see your final presentation).

NEW SLIDE (comes on automatically for first slide):
Choosing a slide layout (or AUTOLAYOUT). Notice the different slides. Some are just TEXT BOXES, some have PICTURE BOXES, GRAPH BOXES, or FLOW CHART BOXES. Some of the TEXT BOXES have bulleted list. Choose one. I prefer blank pages or pages w/ just text boxes.
PICTURE: FROM FILE OR CLIP ART:
Use this command o place a picture in your presentation. To get your digital pictures off a disk: On a PC go to the A Drive (or CD drive), on a MAC, go to The DESKTOP, choose your disk (Untitled?). You can also paste a picture in that you've copied from the Internet (right click on the picture).
OBJECT:
to open a little program (art, flow chart ) to enter a fancy "media" add-on.
FORMAT MENU
APPLY DESIGN
Allows you to choose a background. On PC, the choices just come on the screen, on a MAC, you need to manually go to the MICROSOFT OFFICE folder. Start by going to APPLY DESIGN and choose DESKTOP then go through the drive (Hard drive: Software: General Applications: Office: Templates: Presentation Designs). You cannot have a different background for each slide, just one for the entire presentation.
SLIDESHOW
ACTION BUTTONS AND SETTINGS:
Establish button to do actions like go to hyperlinks, new slides. You can right-click on a button to set its actions.
PRESET and CUSTOM TRANSITION:
Applies a transition to a specific component within a slide i.e. making text fly in. Highlight the component to create an effect.
SLIDE TRANSITION:
Applies a transition rule to an entire slide.
THE BOTTOM DRAW TOOL BAR:
Included are a series of tools including: shape tools, line tools, arrow tools, picture and text boxes, fill, and text color. Check out the VIEW MENU: TOOLBARS.
